Our Route 66 Daily Journal: October 5, 2026

Today we backtracked to Clinton, OK for the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum, went to Elk City via Interstate, took Route 66 to Sayre, OK and then backtracked to the KOA in Foss via Route 66.

The Oklahoma Route 66 Museum was our first stop of the day.

Outside the museum there is a Will Rogers Highway marker.

As we entered Elk City, we spotted the Elk City Route 66 Centennial Monument.

We also found the Elk City Community Unifier Statue.

We made a quick stop at the Elk City Chamber of Commerce for the stamp in the Oklahoma Route 66 passport.

We enjoyed a good lunch of soup and sandwiches at the Country Dove Gift & Tea Room in Elk City.

After lunch, we explored the Elk City Museum Complex, which includes a transportation museum, National Route 66 Museum, Old Town Museum, and a farm museum.

Before leaving Elk City, we got a snack at 66 Sweet Spot.

As we drove Route 66 from Elk City to Sayre, we crossed the Timber Creek Bridge (Dad got out to take some photos before we crossed).

In Sayre, we found the Sayre Community Unifier Statue.

As we drove Route 66 back to the KOA, we stopped at the Holy Family Cemetery in Canute to see the the 1928 grotto.

Nearby we visited the Canute Route 66 Park, where we played on the seesaw.

Our last stop of the day was near the KOA to take photos of cattle statues and old cars in a field that we noticed when we were driving by on the Interstate earlier in the day. It appears to be set up in honor of this area being part of the Great Western Cattle Trail.
