Our Koffee Trail: 2nd & Main Coffeehouse

Date of Visit: July 6, 2025

Location: 2nd & Main Coffeehouse, Niles, MI

Rating: ❤️ (Love)

Probably would not have ended up on the route through Niles back to the cottage if things had gone as planned last night, but due to Nascar and Navy Pier fireworks we were unable to get access to Mom's condo building. Instead of driving around a third time and trying to be allowed onto the road we just decided to get out of the city. We ended up finding a hotel near the Indiana Dunes, which led to us being on the route through Niles rather than the more toll road route we tend to end up on if we choose fastest route from Chicago.

I got a Peach Cobbler Latte. Dad got a Macchiato. Mom got an Orange Cream Cold Brew.

On our way from Michigan to Illinois, we thought we'd stop at 2nd & Main Coffeehouse in Niles, MI, but we did not end up going that route. In Granger, we discovered Caffeine & Cream, which is a coffee and ice cream shop.

I got a Butter Pecan Caramel Latte. Dad got a coffee. Mom got a Cold Brew + Sweet Cream.

Our Koffee Trail: Savage Bean Coffee

Date of Visit: July 3, 2025

Location: Savage Bean Coffee, Cassopolis, MI

Rating: ❤️ (Love)

Since we didn't have time to go to the grocery store and make the last barge on our way up to the cottage last night, we went in to town on the first barge this morning. Of course, had to stop at Savage Bean Coffee on our way to the grocery store.

Dad got a Flat White and I got a Black Tie Latte (blackberry & dark chocolate).

Nora got a lemonade and we got Mom a Cold Brew with vanilla.

    Route 66: Meadow Gold District

Date of Visit: June 21, 2025

Driving Route 66 through Tulsa, we stopped to take photos of the Meadow Gold sign and ended up spending over an hour exploring the Meadow Gold District.

Near the Meadow Gold sign is Meadow Gold Mack. There is a gift shop nearby that we went in to get a sticker and found there is an Oklahoma Route 66 Passport to get stamped at various Route 66 places in Oklahoma. While there is only one page for the Meadow Gold District, different shops have different stamps, so we decided to visit some of the other shops nearby to get more stamps.

Next we stopped at Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios on Route 66, which has some giant statues including Buck Atom and Stella Atom. Dad says we'll have to visit again next year because they are getting some more giant statues.

We then stopped at Decopolis Discovitorium, which is a magic/sci-fi gift shop as well as art deco musuem.

Before returning to the car we walked a few more blocks to check out some of the various murals.

    Our Koffee Trail: Lodi Coffee

    Date: June 28, 2025

    Location: Lodi Coffee (Summerville, SC)

    Rating: 👍 (Like)

This morning Dad and I just went for a quick trip to CVS to use my $2 Extrabucks to get some popcorn and ended up in Summerville, SC because for the past few weeks I had been half-heartedly tracking Switch 2 restocks and it was the first time I noticed any showing up in South Carolina. Since I had left my coffee untouched on my desk thinking we were coming right home, we ended up getting some coffee in Summerville. Yes, we also got the Switch 2 and we did get the popcorn at CVS (and then got some Bubly because it spit out another Extrabuck reward).

Lodi was a well set up drive through only coffee shop. Dad got a Dirty Chai and I got a Peanut Butter Blossom (it seemed under the Latte menu, but their mochas also were and I think this was a mocha...it was good if it was supposed to be a mocha). The Bean Burrito I got was also good.

Route 66 Road Fest 2025: Preparing to Travel Route 66 for its 100th Anniversary in 2026

Date of Visit: June 21, 2025

To get ready for traveling Route 66 for its 100th anniversary next year in 2026, we went to the Route 66 Road Fest.

The first thing we did at the Route 66 Road Fest was play the Route 66 themed mini golf course. We enjoyed it, especially with it just being $2 per person to play.

We then spent several hours going through "The Journey: Route 66 Through the Decades" exhibit. It was interesting to see the history of Route 66 with the various decade themed exhibits, which often included period cars and period actors. Also, got many ideas of places that still exist on Route 66 to check out.

The Vintage Trailer Resort area was also interesting. Of course, it was Mom's favorite area.

There was also a large car show with a wide variety of cars that we wandered through.

Before leaving, we went through the are with booths from most of the states on Route 66 and gathered some information for planning next year's trip. We also had to get our photo with the Golden Driller.

Our Koffee Trail: Caliber Coffee Co.

    Date: June 25, 2025

Location: Caliber Coffee Co. (Nasvhille, TN)

    Rating: ❤️ (Love)

As we hit the road again, we stopped at Caliber Coffee Co.

I thought it was an easy choice for me to get the seasonal PB&J Latte, but then Dad noticed on their regular menu there was a Butterbeer Latte. I couldn't decide on one or the other, so I ended up with both. Dad got and Oat Milk Flate White and Mom got a Smoky Mountain Cold Brew (oak barrel cold brew with salted caramel & touch of half & half...usually it is with bourbon caramel, but they were out of that).
